My 75 year old DF has been complaining for some time now if bad dreams.
They aren’t nightmares, they are unpleasant, unnecessary dreams that leave him tired so he’s getting upset.
Firstly, he talking about trying Nytol but I know it’s not a long term solution.
And secondly, I think I might have read somewhere one time that bad dreams can be the beginning of dementia.
Any ideas ? Thanks.

If you think it might be a sign of Dementia could he talk to the GP about his dreams?

Yes, I’ve read bad dreams can be a feature of dementia. But I got the impression they weren’t the first symptom. My Fitbit tells me that too much REM sleep makes you more likely to remember your dreams, so it could be a symptom of poor sleep quality? So a visit to the GP, to rule out dementia, hopefully, and discover the reason for bad sleep?

Thanks. I’ve told him to speak to the GP.
I don’t think he wants to go down the route of sleeping tablets, but he’s getting fed up with these dreams and feeling tired because of them.

If he doesn't want to go on to sleeping tablets, could he try upping his exercise fir a week and trying chamomile tea in the evening?

Apparently lots of people have had different it upsetting dreams during the Pandemic, they were talking about it on The Digital Human tonight. Might be worth a listen?

If a bit of extra exercise and Chamomile Tea doesn't help then Nytol fir a couple of night might just give him some rest.

How's he getting on now @DinosaurDiana?

@BunnyRuddington

How's he getting on now *@DinosaurDiana*?
Thanks for asking. He’s been put on Promethazine. He’s not tried it yet , but will do. I suggested an antihistamine previously and that did help a bit, so we’re hopeful. The nurse he spoke to didn’t seem interested he said, and just wanted to end the conversation. She didn’t seem to get that he can fall asleep OK, but it’s the dreams he wants to stop.
