What will she be using it for? It may be that a tablet (more visual) is bettter for her.

Mrsmadevans · 10/01/2021 21:23

Doro are very good for older people.

My father has a Doro 603. Clamshell design, so switches on automatically as you open it. Big buttons, a couple of programmable buttons, so in theory to ring me all he has to do is hold down button A (which I have overpainted with my initial), although in practice I think he just presses the green telephone button and rings whoever he rang last - if I'm away I just move my son temporarily to the top of the call list.

I think it's probably louder and clearer, but he still has difficulties hearing me, at least in part because he's never got to grips with having to hold the phone somewhere near your ear, and he handicaps himself by his conviction he needs to hold the charging cable into the phone socket while he uses the phone.

Some of the newer Doros may be of use: see for example:

Doro, with fat keys and no functions. And programme the numbers in yourself.

Have you decided on one yet @Mrsmadevans? Just interested as DM is very deaf.

Mrsmadevans · 03/05/2021 20:00

I gave her my Dd1 old one, it is a Motorola 6 with very few functions, she can ring out using the plumbed in numbers and she can answer and hear using the loudspeaker thank God l tried my Dd old phone first!

Speak to www.connevans.co.uk/viewPage.do?id=index
Who are specialists in equipment for those who are hard of hearing/deaf. I would also recommend contacting your local council Sensory support team as they will be able to make an assessment should she need other support in the home such as a more audible door bell/fire or smoke alarm etc... and also be able to tell you if she is eligible for any financial support for such items including her phone.

Also if she has hearing aids, speak to her Audiology dept (if NHS) or private dispenser to check she is up to date with the servicing of her aid (recommended at least twice a year) and hearing test (recommended every 3 years or under that if there are other factors such as dementia for example)

Thank you so much for replying, Mum is overdue by a year for her hearing test and the Audiology dept has a waiting list backlog of untold amount Hmm I will give them a ring tomorrow thank you for shifting me into action Smile

Hi OP.
Don't worry so much about the actual test itself as long as they have placed her on the list, the waiting lists are long at the moment for routine "reviews" mainly down to the several mth period last year where these appointments were stopped but a lot can be resolved in the meantime with a routine service or repair appointment to check the aid is functioning as it should be and this quite often improves things immensely. Sometimes minor adjustments can be made to improve the sound at these appointments too.Flowers

If she has any mitigating health issues, particularly anything relating to her cognitively, or has had any illness/injury since they last saw her, that could have affected her hearing please mention this as they may expedite her need for a hearing test.
Sorry this reply is a few days since you last posted. I hope they have helped you out.SmileFlowers

Hi! Sorry I've only just seen this @Mrsmadevans I hope all is ok with you and your Mum.

YodaBabe · 05/06/2022 22:36

My dad has a doro but struggles so we got an Amazon echo show.

He tells her who to call and he can see us which is more important as if he can't see your mouth move he can't hear!

Works much better for him

Justkeeppedaling · 05/06/2022 22:52

We got DM al Alexa so she can just shout at it to phone us. She loves it.
