My 88yr old MIL is bipolar which is usually managed by medication, except when she has a uti which can send her psychotic.
She's in a care home and had a uti about 3 months ago, which has been treated and cleared up.

Over the last few weeks she has said things that make no sense, we humour her as she is very happy in herself. Today when dh spoke to her she told him that she was going to be the next queen, it had been announced yesterday.
Other than that her short term memory is fine, remembers things from previous conversations etc.

It is looking like a form of dementia but doesn't fit with anything I've read online, she remembers previous conversations, what she watched on tv this morning and names of her carers.
She has regular blood and urine tests, which are normal.

OP being happy is the absolute goal in my opinion so well done everyone.
The label dementia won’t really change much in her current situation will it? You could ask for her to be tested but I’d be accepting happy.

It could well be, hallucinations and tall stories are very much par for the course. I'd agree also with pp. Happy in herself is great. My Mum had dementia and was happy till the day she died.
