Hi all

Do you have any recommendations on a simple to use music system for an elderly relative.

He has been moved to a home and I want to ensure he enjoys music so need a system that is easy for him / carers to use!

Help will be appreciated

Does he like the radio, cds or dvds.

I sorted out an Alexa for my DF and DM. My DF struggled to operate it because of speech issues, but my DM gets on well with it. Radio and Spotify, so there is an ongoing subscription for the latter.

There's something called the Simple Music Player which I got for DM because she couldn't operate anything even slightly complex. You load on the music and then it's just a question of lifting a flap and the music plays. The disadvantage is you can't select a particular piece or track but you can't get any simpler!

My parents aren't particularly old but they love alexa! They even joke that it's their favourite daughter because it listensHmm

We got an echo show for my grandad last Christmas and he absolutely loves it, he is 87, checks the weather and news, asks for songs and radio stations. Think it’s a bit of company as well.

If you have one as well you can ‘drop in’ on them so listen in or talk to them.

I bought a simple music player for my parents - the only control is lifting the flap for it to play music that someone else has loaded to it.
A colleague bought her parents an Alexa, but the problem is you have to remember what to say to it, and her parents both got really frustrated with that, so when my parents passed I sent her the music player and they have been really happy with that as there is no decision making

@CMOTDibbler Have you got a link to that? It sounds like my Dad might cope with that (although he might mistake it for his telephone)

Simple Music Player - my mum managed to work it, and she had severely impaired recognition of objects, and couldn't `read by that point, but the totally solid connection of lifting the flap and it playing things immediatly seemed to work

Thanks, CMOTDibbler
