Hi - does anyone know where I can get very small sizes in traditional clothes like men’s shirts (not fitted style), smart trousers and zip up cardigans? I’ve ordered from Chums, Amazon and Damart and the clothes are too big even in a small. For Mum I need super comfortable very small trousers (size 8is often too big), fleeces etc. Thanks for any ideas!

Watching with interest as MIL is a tiny 6st .
I have bought size 8 M&S collection trousers. But I still need to shorten them and, strangely , release the elastic round the waist as they are too tight to pull over her hips . The fabric itself is fine but the elastic is too firm !

Thank you Trumpton I’ve not tried M&S yet - so hard getting something that fits!

How about looking in school uniform sections?

Rinsefirst · 05/09/2020 18:29

My DM is dressed head to toe in Mini Boden and Gao Kids. Even a fluffy dressing gown with ears in the hood. And none of her stuff in care home ever goes missing Grin

My MIL is 97, fiercely independent, lives alone and is very stylish . Loves her clothes still . I do struggle finding clothes and very often buttons are too small and clothes without buttons do not stretch enough for lack of flexibity .
It’s hard .

There is masses of almost perfect size 8 cashmere in the charity shops around here which we also buy her. It might give a more formal look for your dear mum. The sleeve opening sometimes forces us to go for size 8 as DM can’t bend her arms to fit a cardigan sleeve the way she could before

I quite often notice the quality weekend papers (Times etc) have pages and pages of adverts for older people’s clothing in a full range of sizes (in the home/lifestyle sections). Might be worth buying and having a browse.

How tall are they? Would children's clothes work? Or brands that cater to young teens so go down to an XS and shorter leg lengths. Obviously many styles would not suit, but you can find nice basics too.

Next boys' formal wear have mostly cotton Oxford shirts, if you don't want the poly cotton of school uniforms.

I was also going to say school uniform. There are more natural materials and nice tradional details on the john lewis website.

We have been lucky in the Edinburgh Woolen Mill when looking for my DG who is also tiny - think they do men's too and have a website.
Aso yes to the Sunday papers - the Sunday Post is what springs to mind!

I'd look at landsend for your Mum - small is a 6-8
Dont know about Mens clothing, sorry.

whirlwindwallaby · 05/09/2020 20:39

If your mum needs pyjamas too, then Asda do a 4-6.

What a brilliant thread! We've found M&S great for trousers now Mum has shrunk.... I'm going to bookmark for later, as know we'll need more though care home doing extraordinary job, and say she has plenty - we havent been allowed in her room since March so I've no idea how things are! Been lovely seeing her in the garden though
