Has everyone with parents in care homes been to see them? MIL went into a home with dementia in March and we haven't seen her since. The care home said hopefully early August but wondering what experiences others have had?

We have been able to visit for a few weeks now. We stand outside the folding door and speak through a gap or once they had the door pulled right back. It’s still difficult because mum can’t speak very loud or hear well but at least we can see she looks ok and seems reasonably happy.

Our nursing home said they were looking into it and how they could overcome difficulties. I was speaking to the CHC assessor today and she volunteered that she thought it would be a long time before homes would be accepting visitors.

Have you been able to have video calls? Or to ‘meet’ through glass, a doorway, or outdoors?

We've been told we can see her outside on Monday. I hope she recognises us.

Scotland here so my DSis has seen my DM for four visits outside at distance. Can’t lie. DM doesn’t give her eye contact. DM has developed rocking behaviour and teeth clicking which she has done twice for lengthy periods with my DSis unable to intervene. Heartbreaking.

My friend is in a home. And I've been able to book a visit in the garden for about 3 weeks now. But I really really need to take him into the building society to convert his account to a current account. Bit he's still not allowed out.

I've been able to Skype my dad and to stand outside his window and wave.
We're allowed to visit from this week. Half an hour outside.
I had DD2 during lockdown and it's heartbreaking that he's not been able to meet her properly yet, and unlikely to for the foreseeable future. However, there have been no cases at his home and we'd like it to stay that way, so completely understand the rules.

Havent been able to visit DM since march. We have videocalls every 10 days or so and may soon be able to do garden or window visits if we book in advance so they can get her into a wheelchair for the visit.

But I really really need to take him into the building society to convert his account to a current account. This why it's really useful to have a financial PoA, set up so that it can be used when the person still has capacity.
