Wiltshire foods? Alternatives?

How big are the mini meals?

Are Wiltshire any good?

Are there any alternatives?

I've had donaldrussell.com and cookfood.net - both v good.

TeenPlusTwenties · 21/05/2020 13:59

We used WFF for my IL some time ago.
I know they liked the food, and the portions were sensible for an older appetite.

Since lockdown we have been using Parsley Box, who do microwave meals that don't need fridge/freezer. They're a bit hit an miss but have a wide range and possibly worth a go?

KatyMac · 21/05/2020 15:16

Thanks

It's so hard making decisions for other people

Parsley Box because the IL's freezer is rammed full of things that need actual cooking which is never going to happen. When we reach the stage where I can get to the freezer and discuss what's in it then it may be WFF going forward.

Dm likes m and s ready meals- wasn’t keen on Wiltshire

BurnIt · 21/05/2020 17:49

Can you get sainsburys to deliver?

GlassOfProsecco · 21/05/2020 17:55

My folks have used them but prefer M&S for much the same price.

They find it easy to order & it's always a good idea to have a stash of frozen foods.

Redwinestillfine · 21/05/2020 17:59

My gran had Wiltshire farm foods. She really liked them. They had a decent menu range to choose from, and after my grandad died she enjoyed branching out and trying the curries too

Proudpeacock · 21/05/2020 18:01

MIL has been having Wiltshire Farm Foods since lockdown. I get the rest of her shopping with our groceries

She said they are absolutely fine but wouldn't have them outside of the current situation.

Mintjulia · 21/05/2020 18:30

My mum loved WFF. I liked the fact that they have regular drivers on specific routes, if asked, they will bring the boxes into the kitchen, and they have (or had) a notify procedure if an elderly person doesn’t answer the door or something doesn’t look right.
If the farm foods man was due, that was enough to persuade my mum to be up, dressed, tidy, lippy on Smile

dementedma · 21/05/2020 18:34

Mum has finally accepted she needs some help and has been having Wiltshire meals for the last few months as a back up to when she doesn’t feel up to cooking, or I can’t provide her with a meal. she likes them. I wouldn’t bother with the desserts as cheaper to buy ice cream etc, but the main meals are nice

KatyMac · 21/05/2020 18:36

Hmm how big are the m&s meals? She would probably prefer them really I just assumed they would be bigger

I am hoping which ever version we get the carers will microwave them....

MIL loved them at first but soon got bored.
We got M&S, Waitrose and Cook ready meals instead.

KatyMac · 21/05/2020 19:31

Oh M&S don't deliver so they are no good!!

NoNamesNoPackDrillHere · 21/05/2020 19:40

How about Cook

KatyMac · 21/05/2020 19:49

They look lovely but much bigger portions which wouldn't work!

www.cookfood.net - delicious

DarkMintChocolate · 22/05/2020 13:22

I assume you've looked at meals on wheels and they don't work in this situation?

MIL complained meals on wheels were too high in fat and sugar (that would be down to the sponge and custard desserts no doubt); but then she saw nothing wrong in having 5 pieces of cake for dinner, until we stepped in....Anyway, we got Wiltshire for her. She started off with the mini meals, as she has a very small appetite, in her 90s. I haven't seen them myself; but SIL said they were very small and we suspect MIL chose them, as she thought they would be cheaper for us. We suggested she try a few of the normal sized dinners, to see how they were?

We did also get the catalogue for Oakhouse Foods - they look very similar to Wiltshire, except maybe offer some different meals, if you get fed up of the Wiltshire choices.

Redact · 22/05/2020 13:30

I get M&S meals for my DM, I just get a load and fill the freezer. They do single meals. I take a couple out of the freezer every night and the carers micro them the next day for lunch and dinner. I also buy the fresh soups from M&S and portion these up for the freezer. We've had Donald Russell meals too who I would recommend. We have a local butchers who also makes home made ready meals, they are lovely and I do get some of these most weeks but they are very popular and sell out quickly.

cobblers123 · 22/05/2020 13:42

My dad has been having Oakhouse meals for well over a year. He now has the mini meals and loves them. They have quite a wide range and sometimes have special offers.

KatyMac · 22/05/2020 14:37

Thanks everyone - my mum died this morning so we don't need any food now

Deepest sympathy on your sad news, I’ve ‘known’ you on Mumsnet for many years (unless you have changed your name?).

shoofly · 22/05/2020 14:46

So sorry to hear about your Mum. Thinking of you x
