Support for Mil what options?

My Mil moved to a retirement flat earlier this year with her small dog. She's in her mid eighties. Apart from a weekly coffee morning at the flats she doesn't appear to go anywhere or engage with any of the other communal activities because she has to leave her dog in the flat. As a result I think she is bored and lonely, and she rings us several times a day because she's thought of something she wants to do to the flat or how she's going to manage medical appointments. We both work full time and live 90 mins drive away (her choice to live where she does she didn't want to move nearer us). Any suggestions for how we could encourage her to socialise more? Her mobility isn't great and I think she is reluctant to go out of the flats without company.

If someone came and took the dog out for a while during the day would that enable her to go to some of the communal activities? The Cinnamon Trust do that kind of thing.

Her gp.practice might offer community activities. Many do now and there will also be a list of community centres and what they do in her area. Why does the dog have to stay indoors.

She's unable to take the dog with her to any communal activities at the flats because another resident got bitten - not by Mils dog - but the manager has said no dogs at events. And we're not sure why mil won't leave her other than for the weekly coffee morning.

there will be community events where she can take her doggy, look at the GP Practice Champions site, any local Church groups, Town Council activities, where abouts in the UK is she living. Her GP practice may also run a scheme for hospital transport appointments.
