Top tips for making very nutritious iced coffee????

loveyouradvice · 11/05/2019 00:11

Well my mum has just drunk 7 pints of iced coffee in just under 48 hours - and says she is feeling much better!!

Also ate a couple of fruit tarts but I am realising that pretty much all her nutrition is going to come from iced coffee now - and she is now turning her nose up at coffee ensure!.

How can I increase the nutritional value?

At the moment Im making with organic whole milk, decaf Gold Blend and maple syrup.

Presume I can add some sort of vitamins?

Anything else I can pop in there that she won't notice but will help?

Im doing to experiment with a bit of date syrup and honey on the assumption they have different stuff in them. And see if I can use creamy home made yogurt without distorting the flavour. A bit of potato starch perhaps cos thats good for the gut

Any other ideas???

You could whack a bit of chocolate in it...organic grated just for the fat if she needs that. Chia seeds are full of good stuff and only have a mild nutty taste...they contain omega-3 fatty acids, rich in antioxidants, and they provide fiber, iron, and calcium. You could look for some ground chia seeds or grind them yourself.x

I think yogurt might be sour. Could you add single cream? How about blending in tasteless protein powder (or even baby rice if you have a blender).

What about some butter or MCT oil? Good for energy / calories.

Condensed milk and vitamin powder are the two things that leap to mind.

Coconut cream could be a good option.

You can use the 'build up' drinks to make coffees.
Vanilla seems to be the best, although they do coffee flavour.

Jersey milk has a higher fat content than organic whole milk.

I am NOT a dietitian, but the ones I work with like Maxijul for extra calories if she needs more energy.

Complan perhaps mixed with dairy and nut milk to blend nutrition, I think be careful on changing it too quickly

AndromedaPerseus · 11/05/2019 17:52

Add a couple of heaped tablespoons of milk powder or vanilla flavoured protein powder or a sachet of vanilla Complan to each pint of full fat milk you use and extra sugar if she takes it sweet.

We used to put double cream in hot chocolate for my granny, just to up the calories a bit. Maybe that would help?

I knew someone who added a tot of whisky or brandy to his butterscotch Ensure drinks to make a nutritious ‘Baileys’

Sounds really odd, but get the slimfast cafe latte, make it up with gold top milk, and blend clotted cream ice cream (the really good stuff) into it. The slimfast has vits and minerals added to it so it is pretty complete and the milk and icecream add protein and fat.
