Not sure if I should be posting here or in Legal.

My DSis and I are shown as the attorneys on our parents' LPAs. DF has recently died. DM is for the first time in her life living alone and having to manage bank, bills etc. She simply doesn't want and has asked us to take over. We are happy to do this but whats the next step? Thanks

Contact her utility companies, insurance companies, banks and building societies and lodge the paperwork with them. They will just take copies and give you back the originals. Lots of phone calls but well worth it.

The simplest, I found was to make bank accounts into joint names and ask for my name to be put on the utilities. My mum still had capacity when we did this but deteriorated rapidly into dementia shortly after. She also wanted all correspondence to come to me to. So I did a redirect of mail for a year at a time. This helped me make sure she was not being scammed, or ripped off by insurance companies. Most importantly I could keep on top of her hospital, optician, chiropodist and doctor appointments.

So I contact the various companies/organisations. Thank you that really helps.

Yes, not every company is on the ball, so if you can have your mum with you when making the calls, it can make things easier.

Thank you
