Panic alarms - any recommendations?

My father, who lives by himself had a fall this morning. By sheer coincide his hospital transportation (he has just started dialysis) turned up and were able to help him. The hospital have decided to keep him in tonight but I think he will be going home tomorrow.

The dialysis has made him a bit wobbly and I could see something he could wear (around his neck maybe) that he could press for help could be really useful. Has anyone had any experience of these and have they helped?

Not an alarm but if you get him a Doro phone it has a panic button on the back and it will call whatever numbers you put into it. Got one for my dad recently and works well as he has it on him but not self conscious about it as just a phone- also good because He can use a mobile easily.
If you have an actual panic alarm the button usually calls a call centre who phone the person and charges you a bit for the service, the phone cut out the middle man.

If you want a panic system ring your local social services (adult social care) as they may have some companies normally use in the area, they may be involved anyway in discharging from hospital

My parents got my Nan something from Age Concern after she had a fall and couldn't get up again - I think there was a monthly charge, but it was a negligible amount.

Local social services usually has one for the region, if you google you can prob refer him online.

My DM also has a big buttons phone with a panic button for when she is out and about, similar to the Doro phone.

As Digestive suggests - have a look at your local council website. They may provide the alarm and call monitoring service.

I install the alarms as part of my job. It is really easy so don't be put off if you find a package and have to install it yourself. Companies like Careline will send an alarm unit out to you very quickly.

In our area adult social services will have info about whichever local company is best. It'll probably be on your local authority website or just give them a call.

hey are great, nominal monthly fee. You can set who they call e.g. you first. When my grandad fell and broke his hip they phoned us and an ambulance so we knew what was happening.

Our local area uses this one
