I've bought an Amazon Echo as I thought it might help DM who has the beginnings of Altzimers. I want something to remind her to take tablets or about appointments. I've played around but not sure it will be much use, although the reminders function may be useful. Has anyone else tried this or similar?

Both my parents have dementia - mum has advanced Alzheimer's and dad has early vascular dementia. Dad did a silver surfers type course and used internet for a load of stuff before he developed dementia.

I have echo and we use it to play music when they visit. They're very interested when we ask Alexa what song is playing etc.

I wondered about buying one for them but I thought they would either not use it or be worried by it. My mum is way down the road with Alzheimer's and I figure she doesn't need a random voice talking to her

But if your mother is very early in the disease and she's able to learn new things, worth a go. I'd say the value is more about having her ask Alexa questions - i imagine automated reminders would only work if she has accepted Alexa overall

Thanks - I'm giving it a go - starting with just a tablet reminder. She says she's happy with it, but if she seems confused or scared I'll switch it off. She has asked it what she's doing today. I appreciate you taking the time to respond and good luck with your parents.
