Getting POA

Really need to get POA for Mum with Alzheimer's but she has never wanted us to have it, not outright refused but just uncooperative, also has always refused to make a will, even before the dementia. We could probably just fill in the forms and cajole her into signing, but is that fair, ethical or what others would do? Before long it will be too late. Have managed up to now with joint accounts etc.

Also have many concerns about increasing self neglect, but will save that for another day when I can explain myself a bit better!

Haven't read the whole thread but we did POA ourselves for my mum. Lots of forms to fill in and you need to make sure you don't make any mistakes or the forms will be sent back but easy enough to do. We got my mum's doctor to witness the forms. Good luck.

@mrsmalcolmreynolds and @NewspaperTaxis

The OPG launched an investigation into my DF's LPA, which went to the CoP two weeks ago. He has dementia and we'd applied for LPA as soon as he was diagnosed when he still had capacity. But by the time they wrote to him about it he'd lost capacity and emailed the OPG to say that I wasnt' to be trusted etc etc.

Anyway - CoP ruled he needs a Deputy as not only did he not have capacity then but he doesn't have capacity now, to manage his own financial or health matters. His solicitor is applying to for Deputyship under my instructions.

He has absolutley no idea that it is all out of his, and my, hands now.
