Attendance allowance and hospital stay

It looks like my dad will be in hospital for a good while in a palliative care 'step down' bed. He may even pass away in hospital rather than make it back home as he's getting weaker. He has higher rate AA. The gov.uk website says this benefit stops at 28 days after admission.
Will the AA helpline take this info from me and just stop the payments? I don't have POA (dad has refused to discuss such matters) and we're unlikely to get it sorted now.

I'd let them know on the 28th day you do t want to be chased for any over payments in the future. Though far as I'm aware noones asked me what benefits I'm on or have a duty to report my stay to the DWP so they can cancel to the day over any limits

I forgot to inform the DWP when my Dad went into a care home and they fined me £50 for the late notice (about 10 months late). So let them know in good time.

Just ring them. POA shouldn't matter.

Inform them in writing, keep a copy and expect them to claim it back. If he's in hospital a long time state pension spill also stop.

It all comes out in the wash after the person dies , but you'll need to be able to check its correct.

Tell them. My dads social worker told me it would stop automatically when he was admitted to carehome. It didn't and we had an over payment of about £500 to pay back after he died.

Yes they will accept you phoning them.
