Hello!
We are going to be old parents - I'm 46, DH 52, Ds1 4 and DS2 9mo
We've just had an extensive financial review and things are looking healthy, thankfully.
What I'm thinking about is how not to burden our boys in their 20's. We should be financially independent and are putting in place a saving plan for each so they have a lump sum at 18 of approx 50K each for uni, house, whatever.
Any comments from those on the receiving end of elderly parents about something we can be doing now to lessen the impact of our old age on them?
TIA

I am not an expert on this , just one point from my own experience. My mum died at only 54. She had left one of her 2 houses to me. However as she co owned it with dad, it automatically went to him. Now 20 years on he has alzheimers and it is quite likely it will have to be sold for his care. That s not what mum would have wanted. I d advise being careful with the kind of tenancy your property is in, so that if one of you needs care, social services can. T get their hands on all the proceeds of a house sale.
