At home with carers, no mobility - any experience ?

My mum was coping at home, although it was getting harder, until she had a fall and fractured her hip (seems to be a common story). She can't walk on it and I think it will be a long while before she can. We moved her into a nursing home, but she wants to go back to her own home. We can arrange for carers to come in 3 or 4 times a day but she will be alone in between. I don't live too far away so I can get there fairly quickly if needed. She is determined about what she wants, but how realistic is it ? Does anyone have any experience ? Any advice at all will help.

We managed quite well with my Nan over the last 4 years with the support of carers who came in 3 times a day.

We had the OT involved who got all the medical equipment needed and the social worker who was our point of contact when problems arose.

Most of the time it ran smoothly but we did have a few hiccups that we were able to sort out.

You will need a social worker to do an assessment of your Mums needs and they will be able to tell you whats available in your area and how much your Mum will have to pay. My Nan only made a contribution to costs even though she owned her own home because her savings were under 23,000.

I think each area differs but i could be wrong.

Thanks Cranberryorange, that is reassuring. I have spoken to social services today and they are going to arrange an assessment.
