Three weeks ago I posted a desperate thread about my mum who'd had a fall - a very long thread so I won't go all over it again. I just wanted to say thank you for all the advice given by MNs.
You may remember that I posted am couple of days later to say the Enablement team were coming in three times a day go get meals for mum.
Well, over the next couple of weeks the Enablement team encouraged her to make her own meals with their help. They finish with her this weekend. She's making all her own meals before they get there now as she's hungry before their due time! She's using a walking stick now instead of a walking frame and took herself off to the residents lounge in her sheltered housing scheme a couple of days ago as she was bored!
The GP has arranged for the district nursing team to take over her insulin shots so they are in once a day which is a relief as we've found out through a blood test that her glucose level has been high for a few months - she'd forgotten to do her blood glucose tests at the right time each day but, because she SAID she'd been doing them none of us questioned it. It was only when the GP ordered complete blood checks that it came to light. She's been referred to the hospital memory clinic to find out if there's any early signs of dementia being masked by confusion being brought on by high glucose levels.
And all because some marvellous MNs suggested calling the out of hours GP or social work team. So thank you. You've saved my sanity and, most of all, kept my mum safe.
