My dad is in a respite home while mum trying to get some extra hours of care so he can go back home. He has fallen, has an infected headwound, very distressed/crying, not had a shower. Need him out of there immediately. Please where can I find an agency that will provide short term emergency care in their house? i will pay if necessary, just desperate to get him back home. He has care in the day and at night but needs 4-10 pm covering to make it 24 hours. My mum works and has physical disabilities so cannot manage him without help

I can't advise but wanted to bump your post so someone who can help sees it.

Google home care companys and then your area, most of them all provide 24 hr immediate start care

tweetytwat · 29/10/2013 20:56

I agree Google home care agency with the town
it will be £££ though and no guarantee that SS will be willing to continue that many hours for care at home

CMOTDibbler · 29/10/2013 21:05

I did the googling home care agency + my parents town thing when my parents desperately needed some help, and phoned a few, then chose the one who seemed most helpful and interested in them as people. Bless them, the manager was over there that afternoon to assess the situation.

Currently, they have a carer who the district nurses knew of, and she is fab as non agency and so drops in if she sees the ambulance outside (depressingly frequent), and flexible in what she does.

This does cost though - £17 an hour.

Hope you find something suitable

Contact your Local Authority. They will be able to give you a list of providers they approve and monitor. Your parents may even be elidgible for funding if they meet the 'Fair Access to Care' criteria. Privately funded care can be expensive (£15 per hour - ish). Even if your parents are self-funders their contribution may be less if you go through the Council - providers charge Councils they hold contracts with less per hour because of volume of work they receive. Alternatively go to the CQC website to find local agencies, you can download their inspection reports for free too. Good luck!

Sorry for random spelling, posting on iPhone!

P.S. Most homecare providers will be able to assess and start care the same day, when urgent.

Thankyou so much. I am desperate for him to go home. He deteriorated so much in a few days. Shocking. I can get a loan for a couple of weeks care but cannot afford any more. He already has funding for a full time carer for days and for night care. Its just that evening cover that is the shortfall. This delay could cost him his life.

The local council should have an emergency contact number- county council? Good luck

Parietal · 29/10/2013 22:17

there is a site called emergencychildcare.co.uk which also does elder care. I've used them for childcare, but it is VERY expensive.

Agree with pommes. Contact the la and get a list of providers, or ask them for an emergency assessment for your father. Depending on where you live they will sometimes initially assess over the phone, put the support in to deal with the emergency and follow it up from there. Certainly worth asking for an assessment as home care costs ££££

TillyTotter1 · 29/10/2013 22:28

Agreeing with all suggestions. Also, I would call the care home and complain verbally in the morning and then lodge a written complaint with them and your father's social worker to try and improve his standard of care until you can bring him home

Pommes · 30/10/2013 22:51

It sounds like your father has very high care needs that warrant day and night support. Has he had a continuing healthcare assessment? If he does meet CHC criteria he may be entitled to have all of his care costs met by the NHS, regardless of his savings or income.

Needmoresleep · 31/10/2013 08:21

Is he getting full attendance allowance?

kalms1971 · 01/11/2013 16:23

Hi the funding manager and social worker are meeting on Tuesday to sort out the funding. They have both been slow. Wonder if things would move faster if it was THEIR relative?

They tend to meet weekly for funding issues. You really need to push and keep ringing, getting other professionals to ring, possibly make a complaint and get your mp on board to get things approved out of panel.
