Is being unsteady on feet a sign of Alzheimer's?

Or is it normal for a 63 year old?

I have been slightly worried about my DF for about 18 months. His memory is not what is was & he seems to suddenly lose concentration part way through conversations... For example, he will ask a question and them, as the person is answering, he'll turn away or just stare into space! He also gets people's names wrong all the time & sometimes seems to struggle with fairly simple tasks, such as doing up the zip on my DD's coat. This is most unlike him.

My DM and I were worried about him but he had his ears tested, found out his hearing isn't great in one ear & then said he that was the reason for his odd behaviour.

I've been our for lunch with him today & he managed to stumble/trip over three times in a hour. Once was over a chair, but the other two times were over nothing in particular. This seems like a lot to me! I didn't mention it because I knew he would become defensive and annoyed. I know he's older but not THAT old surely? If I didn't know him, I might have suspected he'd been drinking because of the way he was stumbling around Confused

Could it be a problem with balance - ear-related?

My DM has alway been clumsy and uncoordinated (something of a joke in the family) and it did get worse as she got older, but she is now 82 and I am pretty sure she hasn't got Alzheimers yet!

If you do a search for symptoms there a few sites which will help you. If you can get your father to a GP for an assessment that would help him get the right treatment.

My DF has parkinsons which makes him stumble, he is forgetful, but not sure if that is age or parkinsons related.
