Grabber/reacher/helping hand - which is the best?

I'm looking for a grabber for my mum so she can pick things up from the floor and which are generally out of her reach. Quite a selection on Amazon. here and here. Just wondered if anyone could recommend a good one? TIA

I have had several grabbers for years. The first one is better, I am just about to order a new one from Discount Scooters as they do one that is 36 inches long which makes it easier to reach further without stretching, I can't remember the price but it wasn't dear and dont forget if your Mum has health you can claim the VAT exemption.

The first one is same as ones we give out in hospital where I work (I'm a physio) to all our patients who've had hip replacements or back surgery and can't bend - work really well and quite sturdy. I'd go with that one.

Thanks very much for such quick replies fiverabbits and DorsetLass. Have just placed an order for the first one. Things are obviously different in Dorset as these are not given out by London hospitals.

I work in a private hospital so probably not that different in NHS - hope your mum gets on ok with it!

Thanks DorsetLass. I am sure my dds will fight her to use it. We did get a perch stool, zimmer and commode from the NHS hospital so did very well really in terms of equipment.

If you can arrange for an Occupational Therapist to visit your mum at home, she may find that useful. OTs can give advice on rearranging work areas and can suggest or provide equipment. You can get things like kettle tippers, grab handles, shower seats etc to make life easier.

Also there are things to help put socks or pop socks onto feet. One is called something like a "sox-on".

Thanks very much carabosse. I have seen this on Amazon to help put socks on. Have never heard of kettle tippers but these look useful. Interesting how many aids are out there.

and she loves it .

there are various makes around ,I would recommend one that lets you vary the amount of water dispensed .

and I find that it's important to completely empty it about once a week ,to keep it "fresh".
