She will be 5 and one of the oldest in the year.
The cut off point is 31st August.

ShowOfHands · 10/07/2010 12:29

Yup 5 and one of the oldest. Children that have just turned 4 in August will be in the same year as her.

Thanks
{{sigh}}
She seems to do everything early and I just know she'll be ready well before then.Why couldn't she be 3 weeks early like my other 2 ?

your Dd is very fortunate. those who are older in their class do much better in school

maxpower · 10/07/2010 13:17

that's not alway true kristina just because you're a younger child it doesn't mean you'll do worse. (I was the youngest child in my year and back then we all started in September - an I was the first child in the class to get a reading book)

ShowOfHands · 10/07/2010 13:57

Aah but a few days younger and she'd be the youngest. I have a summer born dd and she'll be 4 and a bit when she goes to school.

It isn't true that the older children do better. I do think there are big emotional and social differences between a just 4 and just 5yr old though. Achievement wise, it depends on many other factors.

Don't wish her life away. Enjoy having her at home for another year. TBH reception is a waste of time for a bright child and she'll learn more at home and be less bored.

MathsMadMummy · 10/07/2010 14:03

there's pros and cons for both. DD is a summer baby but I think home environment, enthusiasm for learning etc are far more important. hope so anyway as DS was born August 30th!

OP, your DD will have longer with nursery funding (she'll get 5 or maybe 6 terms, whereas mine only gets 3) so she won't be totally missing out.
