Primary schools - can anyone recommend a good one in Sheffield?

I am about to look at primary schools for my children. I have checked out the ofsted site and am going to see the Heads but needed some valuable parenting advice on who thinks what about which one? All comments greatfully received.

Not really Sheffield .... but I did a two week teacher placement at Dore Junior School ... erm way back in 1990.
It was a lovely school back then and the head at the time was fantastic.
Don't know about any others though.

Hi. I live in Sheffield too - actually moving into city centre apartment on Friday, fingers crossed. Where abouts are you?

We have looked a little into schools but near us the catchment school isn't so good. DD is only 15 months too.

Are you near Ecclesall? The schools round there are good from what I have heard - Ecclesall, Hunters Bar, Dobcroft. I think they are S11 though. Have you checked out your catchment schools which might be a good place to start - if you type yur psocode onto the Sheffield LEA site it will tell you.

I recommend visiting too. We went to look at about 4 schools for DD before making a choice.

Thanks,
yes, I have checked out ofsted reports and chosen about four near us. I am going to see them all. I just wanted to see how everyone else felt about them. I did not just want to go on the paperwork side of things. Also thought I might get some first hand reports on experiences - not sure this might be a bad move I don't know. I know everyone's experiences are different and everyone has different priorities for their children.

Going to visit the school is generally a good idea as you can get a really good feel from that. Ask to see the classrooms and try to see children at work and play; watching around morning and/or afternoon when children are arriving and leaving can be revealing too, as can breaktimes to see how the children play.

I know it is a tough job and I am so glad to have ours sorted and out of the way now. Good luck!
