Hi, I am pregnant (week 22) and lived in Blackheath SE3. Does anyone know where I can get information about good nurseries in this area or can anyone recommend any?

I am self employed so would like my baby to be able to go to nursery just a couple of mornings a week but I want a good one. Also, does anyone know how much it costs and do I need to put my name down on a waiting list now.... This is all new to me so any help much appreciated...Thanks

am also se3.

day nurseries - not a huge amount in se3 really? there's genesis and zoom in lee? or headstart on belmont hill?

there is blackheath day nursery at blackheath rugby club too but other than that think you'd be in greenwich? there's teddie nursery in east greenwich?

i know people who've used and liked all of them.

daily rate used to be about £50 per child - but may have gone up a bit by now?

always a good idea to look around and get name on waiting lists asap IMO?

I'd recommend the Quaggy Children's Centre on Lewisham Road (SE13 but an easy walk from Blackheath). It's a lost cheaper than many of the others and is in a building that was built especially for the nursery (along with a community wing). There are lots of other activities on too e.g. baby music, toy library, stay and play sessions etc. so once you've had your baby you could get a real feel for the place.

Definitely look around and try to get your name on a waiting list wherever you choose.

did you use quaggy se13mummy? i did look round it for ds and wasn't keen as the staff seemed very young and inepxerenced - but he's nearly 6 now, perhaps things have changed?

Yes, DD1 was there for three very happy years from 2005-2008. One of the things I liked was that the staff weren't all young; many had children at the school next door and a decent number were at least my age (27 at the time) or older.

My son was very happy at Lingfield on Kidbrooke Grove Blackheath but I think that is from 18 months onwards. What I liked about it was you were free to wander about the rooms - a large hallway for dressing up games, the wet/sand/painting play room (where the also eat; tables put away) and the larger room with cushions for books, train track carpet etc. The staff were also great with a core that had been there years. Before choosing I also viewed the one at Blackheath rugby club but found the room there small and they weren't allowed to move up to the next room till they reached a certain age. A number were also unattended in the toilet facilities when I went there (2-3 year olds) which didn't instill me with much confidence or all the cots jammed one next to the other in a miniscule room. Lingfield also has an enormous garden and a separate room for those taking a nap plus this room was used for the slightly older ones taking optional French by a woman from Le French Ecole who came in weekly. HTH.
