Hi

I have just realised that my dd (9) is struggling with Maths and needs my help. Yikes!

What she needs is a systematic programme which will revisit all of keystage 2 i think but at the moment it needs to be cheap nee free and definately counts out kumon etc. That means me and my computer which has bought be here.

Google is baffling...

Any suggestions gratefully received.

Have you tried BBC Bitesize thats free. Could you afford £30 for a 12 month subscription to mathletics.com? With this you could perhaps set it to the year group below in order to boost her confidence then raise it when she feels more confidence. They can also take part in mini challenges to help with mental maths.

My kids (10and 9 yrs old) love Mathletics! Their school issues them with passwords so they can participate in the seasonal competitions. Browsing the rest of the site it seems to be good value and deals well with the basics but you may need to try other material to extend the work a little.

Workbooks can be good; the key is to start with an easy book (maybe one year younger than her age) to build her confidence and fill in any gaps, then do a little bit every day.

I've started blogging about ways in which parents can support their children's maths learning, there may be ideas that you and DD will find useful.

Good Luck
