Good state primary schools in Greenwich?

Any good/bad experiences of St Joseph's or Meridian? Sadly we are too far from Halstow for that to be a possibility.

st Josephs is, as I'm sure you know, a catholic school. the children wear a uniform and it seems like a happy, multi cultural school - the catchment is mostly from the local large estate and the ofsted reports are okay (all 3's). Meridian is on the up but going through some changes - long standing head is leaving soon. takes a lot of the children who didn't make it to Halstow so catchment is mixed socially. I like Meridian (have close knowledge) but not enough to send my ds there unfortunately - just on a class size basis really.

Between St Joseph's and Meridian, I'd go for Meridian.

I am told middleclass families in the area choose from 3 schools - Halstow (of course), Meridian and Millennium.

I know parents whose dcs go to Meridian and Millennium. I think they are reasonably satisfied. The Meridian one said her dd was not stretched in reading (they were sending her Year 1 dd home with books for pre-schoolers). Millennium is a fairly new school and up-and-coming too.

Thank you. Bit worried about class sizes. Unsure if trying to find the money to go private would be better. I am happy that we can help stretch DS1 at home but worried that he might get bored at school in a big class with not much teacher attention.

Louplet, secondary schools in Greenwich are generally not very good.

So your dc would be aiming for the Bexley or Dartford Grammars or possibly going private if they don't end up in the secondary school of their choice.

Louplet - are you a church attender? There is an excellent school on the Heath - All Saints (Lewisham Borough). It has a tight catchment but I do know of one family who live in the meridian catchment area that were offered a space there.
When we visited Meridian, the class room itself was quite a good size but with only the Sept - Dec intake in, it already felt full enough. I think with a full class of 30 it would be physically quite crowded - not sure if there is a teacher and a full time teaching assistant as well. However, lots of parental involvement supporting reading so I think Meridian will be on the up. I would definitely choose Meridian over St Josephs.

For All Saints, you need to get yourself down there on Sundays and ingratiate yourself with the vicar. That's the only way someone in the Meridian catchment will get a place, hth.

All Saints is also a single-form entry school (30 places) and at least half of those will go to siblings. Unless you're already an active member in a C of E (or Churches Together) church you're unlikely to get in from where you live.

Oh, and even at All Saints there is a mass exodus to private schools at Y4 with parents hoping their children will be trained to pass the 11+ and be in the top 180 of those who take it so they will be allocated a place at their first choice of grammar school!

I'd recommend Morden Mount but am probably the only person round here who would.... it often has small classes and lots of adult attention available. It makes sense to visit the schools you're interested in and those you think you might end up with a place at. It's far too early to be thinking of secondary school places and anyway, by the time your DS is 11 there may not be any real schools left!

Thank you. That is all helpful stuff. We do go to church but St Joseph's (catholic) so no good for All Saints I imagine. Will look into it though. Sounds generally like Meridian will be the best bet.
