I know the SENCO will be doing it

But I need guidelines and help so I know what is going on (I can't just sit and watch - I have to interfere )

Should they be SMART?

Are there any 'rules'?

me again am not stalking oyu

yes, they should be SMART, that is the main point.

Some schools like to keep them brief - I say that it should contain everything thatneeds working on, so that all areas can be looked at

I don't know how one would look for your dd, as her academic result s have not suffered in some areas - I guess they might concentrate on the subjects she had dropped a little?

also, not sure how physical disability targets figure, but things like working up to asking for help (if your dd is determined to soldier on) shouuld be included, along with how this is gone about.

NO WAFFLE - keep SMART.

LIZS · 17/06/2010 08:45

yes they should be smart and have a review date and any support/equipment needs put against them, naming individuals responsible where possible. Think of a couple each for practical, personal and academic related issues.

Katymac · 17/06/2010 08:46

S'OK - Stalk me - it's not like I know what I am doing (as a parent) I just know what they should be doing (as a provider)

But my IEPs for 2/3 yos just doesn't quite work for DD - saying Please & thank you, & asking to go to the loo aren't really relevant

Mine would all be SMART - but on a different scale

that's where the national curriculum bit comes in handy. I think school use BSquared - it sets out all the targets per level - but odn't know if this is aimed at SN, so P scales and lower levels etc.

Definitely agree review date too - no point in having targets for a termif they are achieved in 2 weeks, etc etc.

as you say, saying please and thank you not relevant - but maybe asking ofr help is? does your dd ask when she needs help (I don't know- changing for PE?) or doe sshe prefer not to make a fuss?

the areas where she hasn't done so well recentyl could be due to her not wanting to be "visible" iyswim? so targets could be put down for that.

I wonder if the areas where she hasn't done well are where the teacher hasn't engaged with the problem/created ways of teaching a child with VI

They were certainly the most negative at parent's evening

She has learnt she doesn't really get help - which is kinda sad

Bit stressy.....actually a lot stressy

Well that was kind of pointless

We agreed that her locker would be moved to a central area & the end of a row

We put in place some vague IEP about confidence, self esteem & audio tapes for spanish

we might get 3 or 4 hours 2 days next week

What we don't get now we can have in September - but I have to remember 25hrs is not 25hrs

& the emails were not conflicting, apparently

Complain, and complain NOW.

Write to LEA, cc everyone you can think of - docs, governors, MP, seriously, anyone that you think it would irritate the school if they heard about this.

The school have the funding for 25 hours NOW. To not use it in some way for your dd is misuse of funds. They will get more funds in Sept, when necessary. I believe these things are funded termly, as fees would be.

Fight and fight again.

Why OS the IEP so crap? You don't have to sign it if you disagree.

If you want, I can send you a copy of dd1's IEP - obviously all the targets are very different, but better laid out, more thorough IEP you won't find...

Katymac · 20/06/2010 21:57

What I get an option to sign it?

That wasn't discussed

OP posts:
silverfrog · 20/06/2010 22:17

Technically yes, you sign to say you have seen it, agree with it, and that means schools base is covered - proof you agree with the interventions your dd is given.

It is good practice, basically.

Katymac · 20/06/2010 22:23

well that won't be happening

Can PSHE targets be smart?

OP posts:
silverfrog · 20/06/2010 22:43

In your position, i'd be using it to write to the LEA proving just how badly the school is doing at understanding your dd's needs.

Does the IEP address any of the areas where your dd's results fell recently?

Katymac · 20/06/2010 22:45

There were 3

Self confidence
Self esteem
Tapes for Spanish - so I suppose the answer is yes

OP posts:
silverfrog · 20/06/2010 22:53

There's no.way I'd be accepting an IEP like that. Were any of the targets smart? Is there a review date, and a Target to aim for?

I honestly think your only course of action is to shout, and shout loud.

Umm no

I wish I could say I was just giving them enough rope to hang themselves with - however I was in shock I think (it's the only explanation)

So do I write one & deliver it?
