my DD has been in playschool 2 afternoons a week since january. it took her about 6 weeks to settle - i am stay at home mum she is very clingy which is only to be expected. 2 weeks ago we went back to the start again - crying not wanting to go - not wanting me to leave. i have asked playschool do they think i am doing the right thing and they say to persevere, the reason i am sending her to playschool is to prepare her for preschool in september. i am now lying to her telling her i am going to work because she says she doesn't want to go to playschool she wants to stay at home with me and clean. although she cries going to playschool when i pick her up she has enjoyed herself - talks fondly about it - has friends, likes the teachers. i really don't know what to do! it's distressing me but do i take her out for the remaining 12 sessions and have trouble in september or do i persevere and maybe she'll get over it? then again come september i could have all this again!

The preschool don't seem to be very helpful. they should be already integrating your DD on her journey to recpetion and come this term, should be having at least one visit if possible to their new school, or weekly to the story time some schools so etc.
At 3.5 and having vouchers, I'd make the most of the free sessions and put her in for 4/5 sessions a week. I think 2 isn't enough at that age, especially as she'll be going to school in september. 3 sessins at the very least really. You don't say if the sessions she does are consecutive days but if not, I would try and get 3/4 consec sessions for her continuity. Also, ask to see her learning journey book - see how she is in sessions and if necessary, ask (if it's a committee ran preschool) whether they could have a mummies morning where you all go in and have coffee and cake etc and watch the children play. Her key person should be liasing with you regulalry to try an easier approach to settle her. However, if she's fine after the session, this is a lot less worrying than if she's crying and not interested when you collect her.
Perservere or september will be traunatic for you both!

If your DD is fine shortly after you leave, then try not to worry too much. For many children it's the actual "physical" moment of parting that's the hard bit for them to cope with, but once you've actually gone they are quite happy to be there & really enjoy it. I had this with both my children (DD was much worse than DS) & used to stand in the corridor outside listening . Honestly within a couple of minutes they were both fine.

I found the best way with my two was to be very matter of fact about it - "right Mummy is going to do xxx now , have a nice time, I'll pick you up at x o'clock as usual, bye" AND JUST GO! (easier said than done when they are upset, but it just prolongs the agony otherwise...!)
