I'm sure that they can't.

ac cording to my colleagues, some of 20 yrs plus experience, no they can't. 1 or 2 of them make a big point about going offsite occasionally during ppa, and even my hod (very by the book kind of person) said to a colleague that a dentists appointment was ok and she didn't even need fill in a form for absence.

At our place (Academy) we have been told staff cannot leave the site for PPA. We have to sign out if we leave site, even for 20 mins at lunch. If staff are going to be out any time other than lunch during core time (8.30 am - 3.30 pm), their line manager should be informed give approval.

In our area it is at the discression of the head teacher.

Ellokitty · 22/05/2010 23:18

At one school I taught at, we were allowed to be off site whenever we were not teaching. At my last school, we were expected to be there throughout the whole day and were not allowed off site except for appointments etc. I think it varies from school to school.

katycarr · 22/05/2010 23:24

We are not allowed to leave during PPA time.

MmeTrueBlueberry · 23/05/2010 09:38

We don't have PPA time in our school, but if we are free during the last lesson of the day, we can leave.

There is no problem leaving during a free in the middle of the day for school business or a personal appointment. As long as we are signed out, then all is fine.

Haggisfish · 23/05/2010 13:43

No, you are not supposed to leave school during PPA, unless you are lucky enough to teach in Scotland, when you can leave school premises if you are not teaching.

We're allowed to 'pop' offsite (e.g. to bank or post office etc) but not to go home.
