Hi now thinking of move to lymington or maybe bit further north. Have looked at secondary schools around here. Where do parents tend to send children for secondary as hounsdown appears very good what about priestlands and do any send further away - what are admissions processes like if out of catchment,
THANKS

I live not far from both those schools . Priestlands is very good along with highcliffe ( Used to be a grammar school still maintains excellent GCSE results ) which is a bit more west. Hounsdown has a very good reputation and good results well Noadsword in dibden purlieu i've heard is gone results aren't as good as hounsdown but has seems to do very well in sporting competitions . Applemore also dibden is supposed to be on the up but I don't know much more about that one . I also know little about Hardley in Holbury.

Not sure about admissions but I do know that highcliffe, priestlands, hounsdown and noadswood are all over subscribed . Hampshire county council have a very good website on admissions lets you check what the furest distance away someone got in last yr and other bits and bobs.. Hope that helps

What I meant to say was hounsdown good rep + good results

Noadswood heard good things not so good exam about 57% ( not bad ) i think but very good at sports

Don't know alot about hardley or applemore

I used to live down near there and both Hounsdown and Priestlands are meant to be very good. Hellishly oversubscribed though, so if you want your DCs to get in there you really do need to make sure you're within catchment to have any chance (especially if you're moving them halfway through secondary school iykwim).

OFSTED report for Hounsdown can be found here. Not certain how far the catchment extends, though I seem to recall it includes Ashurst, which is quite a nice large villagey place (and has a mainline train station to Southampton and London if that is important for you).

Applemore went through a bad patch recently but I'm led to believe it's getting much better recently as they've got a new headteacher.

Brockenhurst College is where most people from the sort of area go for sixth form, not sure whether Priestlands has its own? Or you may want to think about moving near a school with a good sixth form (Highcliffe springs to mind).

Hope that helps

I'm another local: here are my views.

Priestlands - good reputation, improved hugely over the last 5 years.

Hounsdown - fab, massively over-subscribed: essential to live in catchment area.

Noadswod - ummmm, over-rated. Great sports facilities but academically not as good now as a few years ago.

Applemore - new Head, very dynamic, looking to improve things. On the up.

Hardley - don't bother!!!

I'm also a local teacher, by the way!!

Thought I’d revive this post ... anyone familiar with Applemore? What’s it like to live in the residential area near Tesco?
I’m looking for a nice quiet area, so any insight would be fab!
Many thanks.
