hiya,
bil is homeschooling his eldest son (14), after son wanted to go live with him, and has been classed as 'troublesome' and so isn't allowed into mainsstream.

at his dads, he is really a good kid - seriously he is, anyway - it gets more complicated... keep up

bils wife has always had trouble reading and writing - she callsherself dyslexic - but its just she had a rotton education me thinks. anyway, sil doesn't work and is at home all day - but can't really help other than to make sure that the work is done - she can't check it iyswim.

bil works terrificly hard and very long hours and has decided to home ed. where he will find the time i have no idea.

so i wondered if you have some pretty straight forward stuff for a 14 yo - some links to pretty straightforward sites - nowt complicated. some resources that they can tap into.

oh, they ares kint - so they can't go whsmith and buy the books or anything. do the local education authority give money for materials or anything?

They will get no funding for home ed at all. I was going to suggest the conquermaths website but you have to pay for it. They do a home ed discount, so may be worth looking into. The library may have some relevant resources available.

What alternative have the LA offered other than mainstream? They have to offer an alternative - legally they must provide an education somewhere. What do they mean by 'troublesome'? - it's a bit vague!

I have about 6 pupils in one class that I would describe as 'troublesome' but they are still attending school!

they have offered a special school for miscreants! - don't know the official term.

any one else

behavioural unit or EBD school?

Seriously I would suggest that home ed in the circumstances is going to be very ineffective and not meet the boys needs so take a look at what is on offer first as LA has to provide education unless the parents remove the child.

Tortington · 04/04/2010 21:00

yes the bil has removed him and wants to home ed - he knows the la has a statuatory obligation.

any resources to help this child whilst he is at home anyone>?

Are they in touch with their local home ed groups? That'd be the best starting point, I'd say.

CAn't help with specific resources - my lot are younger than this - why not ask on the HE thread?

Have you tried posting this in the Home education section ?
