Educational psychologist

Ds's school have told us that they are concerned that ds is not reaching his potential, and he has had a pretty bad recent report concerning issues such as concentration and coordination. He is in bottom sets despite I think having quite a lot of natural ability particularly in maths as his output isn't high enough. The upshot is that we are getting him assessed by an educational psychologist. I'm a bit clueless about all of this, what kind of things will he be assessed for and how will this information help the school? TIA

ds1 was assessed by an ed psch. I'm not sure exactly what they did, as it was in school time, but they got an overall feel of what his issues were. They then started him on IEP (individual education plans) which have targets to address the areas where there are issues.

She also suggested that he might have dyspraxia, and so that went to the paediatrician, who then made the referral to OT for a formal assessment for that. An ed psych can't diagnose.

Good luck.

Did you see the report what kind of areas did it cover? We will see report before the school as it is being done privately.
