no discount for us for paying in advance.3rd child is half price as long as you have 3 there.

What assumptions do they make as to future fees and interest rates. Isn't the upfront payment cancelled out by future years fee increases

MillyMollyMoo · 22/03/2010 22:11

Well if i just broke even i'd be happy enough, but I had hoped for maybe a couple of percent off and ideally once I'd paid that would be it, no more bills.
They get the capital so I think it would be a bit much to come back and ask for more later on.

Not sure if the shares will out perform any inflation related increases, oh for a crystal ball !

Top news a 5% discount in addition to the sibling discount, so well worth asking the question if anyone else is in the same position.

I actually get quite annoyed about this. Because many of them have charity status they can make their investment money earn more than parents can because they save the 40% tax rate, so you would normally expect that bursars would be wise to this and would actually market upfront payments with decent discounts which would leave both sides of the equation better off.

Unfortunately, I think only a few of the more 'up to date' bursars in the more well known schools are up to speed here. When I mentioned it to a bursar that I know socially it went right over his head and I think that is normally the case - they look at discounts as being a favour they offer, not a money-winner for school and parent.

Ooh, millymolly. I will ask the bursar tomorrow!

3% two years ago but last year it was only 1.5% if the fees are paid up front before the start of the academic year. 5% sibling discount for first sibling 10% for second and 15% for third
