Hi all - has anyone got any kids attending Eaton House Pre-Prep or Nursery? Considering getting on the waiting list and any info would be very welcome...

Just that it's a lovely school. I grew up in Clapham and it was 1st choice for us until we moved. Just really hight teaching standards, nice children and lots of stuff going on for parents and community.

Thanks MrsPixie - the school does looks nice, prob best to go and have a look around and put the little one on their waiting list.

hi there,

we're also debating whether to wait for eaton house pre-prep for our son for 2011 as we have a place at another nursery for this year. Is it a certainty that pre-prep students will move on to the prep school?

Mingg · 16/05/2010 20:18

Pre-prep is first come first served. With regard to prep, as far as I know, there is an exam and interview so it is not guaranteed that all pre-prep boys move on to the prep school.

Thanks. That helps. Its the same at the other nursery we are considering i.e. he would need to take a test at 7+ to move on to the prep. I just feel 7 is too young for a child to have to deal with the stress of a life-changing exam.

I think it is the same with all/most private schools, you'll need to take a test to move on to the prep. There is also an interview and the headmaster's report though so it is not all down to the test. We have also looked at Parkgate and they are the same.

confused - most 7+ assessments are not "exams" as such - they are generally day long assessments which include all kinds of activities. At the best schools they are assessed so subtly that they are not aware it is a test at all. they simply see it as a fun day. Both my DCs thoroughly enjoyed the 7+ assessments for the schools they are at now. If your DC does not enjoy the day then it is the wrong school for them. As long as y do not let them see that you see it as a "life-changing" exam they will be fine!

It's only one school, lots of others ou there!

Do you mind me asking which school(s) your sons attend? I am looking at all the private schools around Clapham and am somewhat confused so any additional info would be greatly appreciated.

Only one son. His school is actually not that close to Clapham, is in north Surrey, initials SHS.

Other DC is a girl.
