Query about Foundation Stage Profile

Can anyone give me a bit of info about the Foundation Stage Profile. I've received one for my ds, who will be beginning year 1 in Septemeber.

Many of his goals haven't been achieved at all, its just been left blank. My ds does have SN, but I'm curious to know what is generally expected from a child just leaving reception. I know all children learn at different rates, but for the average child, are most of the goals in the FSP expected to be reached?

Does every child leaving Reception get a Foundation Stage Profile? I've just got dd's first school report, but so far no FSP. (There's time - another week and a half of school to go for us.) Just wondering if I should be asking about it? Or do parents not necessarily get to see them? (Our Head has a healthy - imo - scepticism towards SATS and such like, so I'm guessing that if there's a minimal way of doing this she'll adopt it.)

Some schools give the FSP instead of a report, some give it as well as the report and some schools don't give them to the parents at all.

Using the profiles as an assessment document is not statutory, infact schools don't have to use them at all if they have their own assessment system in place. The only thing they do have to do is send the scores to the LEA for monitoring (some schools put the targets from the profiles onto one big spread sheet for the whole class, and work out the scores from that, rather than filling out all those thousands of boxes in the individual profiles). And schools have to report to parents once a year. They can send a report, or use the profile (or in some poor Reception teachers cases, do both ).

So if you got a report, that might well be it.
Ask and see what they say. HTH

Thanks Aniles and Bee. It's dd's Summer Fair tomorrow (think she's going to be disappointed, because she thinks it's a fair with roundabouts and things, even though I keep telling her otherwise!) so I'll try to have a quick word with the teacher and ask. I'm not worried about dd at all (report was very positive) and positively against 'testing' in primary schools, but I'm just very curious!
