It is me again. I cannot make sense of this at all.

Q: je coche si j'entends [y]

la lune - un tube - des bottes - chut - du sucre - des bulles - un noeud - un gateaux - il a plu

Am I being daft or is none of the above the sound [y]?

The rest of the homework is about the sound [u]. Could the teacher have made a mistake?

I would say "il a plu" is the nearest to the sound 'y'

MsDav · 03/02/2010 10:35

I agree with Claig, The i in il has the same sound as the letter y in French.

MmeLindt · 03/02/2010 10:38

That is what I thought, but normally there is more than one correct answer.

I think this might help you clique on "phonemes" at the top then "voyelles"

gorionine · 03/02/2010 10:48

actually this is better it seems that [Y] is the sound "u2 as in : la lune, un tube, Chut, du sucre, des bulles, il a plu

Hope this time the link works ! here

BarkisIsWilling · 03/02/2010 21:07

We used to have a phoneme section in dictionaries

BarkisIsWilling · 03/02/2010 21:08

Don't know if they are still included, but if they are, you'll find example words containing the [y] sound, eg "tu"

Thanks, Gorionine. That was a great link. Makes things clearer.

I don't own a French dictionary, I look everything up online or on my iPhone.
