Key stage 2 SATs revision support thread anyone?

So DS has now came home with SATs revision workbooks. He has homework club once a week where they revise the work and are then told to do so many pages of their workbooks at home.

Ive been here before with DD,but she finds learning easy and didnt need much help.

DS needs loads of help and Im finding that Im either giving him too much help, to the point that Im essentially giving him the answers or Im not giving him enough help, where in which case, he is drowning, so to speak.

So does anybody want to join me in a support thread?

Those books are the work of the devil. These are KS 2 SATs not bloody GCSEs or any other exam that actually matters.

But I am sure, like my DD, he will get more stressed by not doing the revision if his school is insisting on it so try this site it's slightly more interesting and interactive than the books.

I can't believe the school are doing that to them. Is that real? Blimey. Am genuinely interested.

We didnt have so much when ds1 was in year 6 (Now year8). He did have a maths and science workbook but it only was for 1 homework a week. They had booster classes in school for borderline pupils of which DS1 was one. They went out of class in small groups for these. So it was done in school.

Have had 1 dc go through SATs and no2 taking them this year - NEVER had revision books

They get homework 3 times per week - comprehension and maths. Parents asked NOT to help, children told to attempt only questions they can do - teacher picks up 'gaps' and problems and tackles them in class. Have booster classes during school which are really fab.

That's it. Not been an issue for me.

If your ds is struggling now, it sounds to me as though you need to speak to teacher and teacher needs to be tackling whatever he has problems with. Reading between the lines it sounds as though it's the teaching rather than the sats that are the underlying problem?

Actually grunge I wouldnt trust anybody else more than the teacher he has now. She is a fantastic teacher and picked up so much in his first term, I havent seen my DS improve so much in a long time.

The system they have, has been been in place for at least 4 years so the school obviously believe it works. It did work for my DD and she did very well in key stage 2 SATs.

I have spoken to his teacher and she has said, apart from his reading test, he will be able to have somebody with him in SATs to help him with reading the questions, so I can do the same at home.

brightbigknickers The school has also signed them up to sam learning so they can revise online but its a bit more fun, but I will have a look at that link with him too. Thankyou
