Have You Used Lois Addy's "Speed Up!" Writing Programme?

Tis "a Kinaesthetic Programme to Develop Fluent Handwriting" apparently. I'd post a link but the URL is full of odd chars that mess it up.

I've ordered a copy of the book and am interested to read it, even if I decide it isn't right for ds, but I'd be very interested to hear from any teachers/TAs/parents who've given it a go.

Is this what you mean?

Indeed it is roisin, thank you

I tried it with DS1 (8, with dyspraxia) for a while. I think it's a good programme but it requires a lot of equipment (including a double sided blackboard which DH had to make) and time. We just found we couldn't fit it in round all Ds1's other activities (and he doesn't do many!) and he also found it very boring, which made it worse. The warm up exercises are good though and we're continuing with these.

I think if you were using it with a child who didn't hate writing quite as much as my DS, you'd have some success!

Thanks, sphil. My ds (9) sounds a lot like your ds (dyspraxic, hates writing). I think getting him to stick to it is going to be tricky. But I'll give it a go.

OK, so the book arrived yesterday and I read through it last night.

I'm going to give it a go - but not just yet because DS has just started with a new OT and has a lot on (she sets him homework/exercises, plus there's normal school homework twice a week, and spellings). Having said that he seems very motivated so I'm torn between taking advantage of his new found enthusiasm and not wanting to overload him.

I'll update once I get started. I'm slightly apprehensive as I'm not a teacher not am I an OT - but I think I have it in me to support him properly.

It's not that hard to do, just to keep going, iyswim! If you live locally to us, we have a nice double sided blackboard you can borrow! (Somerset). Let me know how you get on. I'm feeling a bit guilty about giving up (we got about half way through).

OtterInaSkoda · 28/01/2010 10:22

Bless you, sphil! We're Somerset way but I want dp and ds to make one, for a bit of father/son bonding (or something)
