Can you get SATS style 'exam papers' for use say Y4 or Y5?

I need to know where DS2 should be to be 'average' for his year group.

I want to know where the problems are so we can do a bit of work on them at home! I have asked the school who are all very soothing (it is a high achieving primary) BUT the fact remains one teacher cannot keep 30 kids up to speed! DS2 is, in my opinion, a C grade pupil BUT I worry that he teeters on the edge of D as he doesn't have the courage to ask when he doesn't understand. I figure the 'solution' is to work through some of his problem areas at home BUT what I really need is a study guide or booklet that tells me exactly what sort of say maths he should be able to do, with examples, at this stage.

Any ideas?

DD is in year 4 and we recently bought some maths problem solving books from waterstones yesterday and they had all sorts of workbooks for english, science etc., so worth a look.I can look up the book title if you need it later on

Does your school do SATS tests each year with the children?
I know ours does, so DS is given national curriculum levels for Reading, Writing and Maths each year with his report.

notanidea, yes, the title would be great, thanks!

blame..., the school do test the DCs but we don't get given the results, just the usual 'working towards' type report, and 'DS1 needs to work on his integer sequencing' Wot? I do have a maths 'O' level so it shouldn't be beyond me BUT the maths and the WAY they do it at school is so different these days I need to get a handle on it to help DS2 constructively!

That's a shame, our school keeps parents quite well informed about where children are. You can then see immediately if your child has made progress that year.
Nat Curr grades have some disadvanteges, but I have liked knowing how DS is progressing.

The titles are - bbc active for KS2 national tests maths practice book age 10-11, collins key stage 2 maths, easy learning maths age 9-10, understanding maths problem solving by schfield and sims. I did see for other subjects as well including science.

Integer sequencing simply means he can't count

This should cover all the objectives for his year group.

There are SATs-style test papers (non-statutory) for use in Y3-5 but, whereas you can get the Year 6 past papers onine, these ones are not available.

I know this as I recently spent hours trawling the internet for a copy of one I was marking after I'd left the book at school!

Doesn't help you, however.

Try googling "Year 4 Key Objectives" for maths and see if the Cumbria resource comes up. (Am rubbish at links, sorry). They will tell you the main things he should be able to do by the end of the year.
