If your child did voluntary SATS tests this year {yr 3,4,5} Do you get to find out the results?

If so did the school give them to you easily or did you have to fight to get them?

DS is Year 5 atm and we NEVER know what his are

obviously in Year 2 and 6 you find them out

But at kangaboy's school they do ALL the voluntary tests but we never get the results

Argggg, they endless files of tests! We have shelves and shelves of the damn things! KS3 sats, GCSE modular papers , GCSE synoptic papers, AS papers , A2 papers and then we also have the internal 'tests'.

homemama · 02/07/2005 19:35

I'm almost sure they have to tell you predicted Y6 grades but maybe not.
Go in, tell them you'd like predicted grades to focus help and fill in gaps. If they disapprove of this I'd say WHY???
Tell them you are going to contact the school improvement officer to ask why they're so cagey!!!
Threaten to bombard the inspectors asking why everything is so secretive etc.
Rally support in playground.
Good luck.

HMB, i've been on Mat. leave this term so missed them.

happymerryberries · 02/07/2005 19:39

I tell my kids their predicted grades at GCSE. It gives many of them a well needed kick up the backside and starts them doing some work.

RTKangaMummy · 02/07/2005 19:42

The thing is DS does work hard and is not a problem

We ahve raised it with head inspector at the meeting 2 weeks ago and so did other parents

We have no idea what the problem is

If there was a valid reason for it we could understand

It does seem that DS school is unusual in not letting parents know doesn't it

If they don't do it as a matter of course, that's one thing. But, to not tell you when you specifically ask seems very defensive.
I hope you get somewhere. Maybe it'll be mentioned in the OFSTED report, parents concerns usually are.
Although IMO, you shouldn't need to wait from Y2 til Y6 to find out if your child is attaining at the rate they should.
From a teacher's point of view, I can't understand why they wouldn't share the results with and interested and concerned parent.

RTKangaMummy · 02/07/2005 19:58

Well I think we will ask after the inspection

Thanks

where I work we write their results for optional SATs on their reports, along wiht reading and spelling ages.

RTKangaMummy · 02/07/2005 21:12

That sounds brill

The only trouble is it means the kids are a bit bombarded with tests for a week or so!

RTKangaMummy · 02/07/2005 21:20

Well DS has done a week or more of tests but we never get the results of them

OP posts:
janeybops · 02/07/2005 21:21

I can't understand that - why wouldn't you tell the parents??????

Seems odd to me, I always go through any test results (even weekly spellings) with parents at parents evening.

What are they scared of???

RTKangaMummy · 02/07/2005 21:25

I have no idea

Unless it is parents comparing

BUT even when we got Yr 2 sats we didn't compare with others

I mean we want to know what DS got not what joe bloggs got

IYSWIM

DS does very well at school as far as we know
