Do TAs get paid if a school has a 'snow day'?

I have just started work as a TA for 10 hours a week and have realised that I know nothing about how I'm paid . Do I get paid if I'm off sick? And what about snow days? Does anyone know, or does it differ from authority to authority?

My situation is complicated, as I work out of school for 4 of those hours with a pupil who isn't attending. The rest of the hours I work at school. If for any reason I don't teach my pupil, I make up the hours at school.

Standard LA sick pay depends on length of service: initially it is 1 month full pay then 1 month half pay rising to 6 months full 6 months half pay. My brain is too addled to remember the service requirements.

Payment for "snow day" will depend on whether you were sent home or told not to work, or just decided that you can't attend. Then it will be up to the HT and will depend on a variety of factors.

I'm not sure what will happen. Today we've been told not to go in, but yesterday local staff went in. I wasn't told this though - bit embarrassing!

You need not wait to be told though. You should set out unless it is too dangerous for you to do so.

I just assumed that when the website said 'school closed' it meant just that!

I get paid if off sick. Infact I am off sick this week and will be paid.

Snow days are different I think. I believe it is up to the head/Governors.

Well I shall go in tomorrow (if open) and apologise. Don't normally work Fridays, so can make up the hours tomorrow morning.

If the school is shut because of factors beyond your control then you should get paid. I imagine that if you choose not to come in then you would not get paid.

Our LEA has some weird rule that teachers should go and help out at a nearby school, but in practice it never happens because of CRB checks and references.
