Tutoring for grammar school entry

I want to give my DD the best chance of getting into a grammar school in my local area (Gloucs). Can anyone give me any advice on what to do for the best? Is tutoring a good idea? if so, what kind of tutor? She's bright (obv ), but won't be getting any help from her primary school to be able to pass the entry exam.

My DD has been using a good website for verbal reasoning practice www.tutr.co.uk. This has all the benefits of home tutoring without the cost! I can just let her get on with it and check on her progress via the site. I think it would be unfair to put her through the 11 plus exams without some sort of tuition!

Dear Patesmum, it was over a year ago, but you mentioned to someone that you'd pass on the name of your child's tutor. I'm new and don't know how to do this, but if you're still willing - I'd be very grateful! Thanks

I would like to tutor my dd for the forthcoming grammar school exams. Any advice for Wallington ,Nonsuch and Tiffinys will be much appreciated

First you need to find out which tests are set by each school (could be VR, NVR, MA, EN). Some schools have sample papers available, some use online tests.
Then think about how to tackle it. VR & NVR are eminently teachable (by someone, not necessarily parents).

Which admission year are you thinking of? Two years preparation is better than one.

Portofino the 11+ papers are quite different to what they're like now. Time per question etc will be completely different. Also you will have learnt in school material beforehand. These days pupils need to know all of Year 5 work with additional Year 6 work (algebra etc) and beyound before they sit the exam in Sepetember of Year six.
