Private schools- How parents deal with unexpected circumstances?

Hi everyone,
I have been wondering for a while, parents that have children in private schools plann for the fees?
I am not against private schools and this is not a question of whats is bes, but my major worry if I wanted to send my DC to a private schools, is how you plann for unforseen circumstances. Like if the fees are paid from one salary and and that person looses his/hers job? Do people have saving plans specially for the fees? At the moment we have our DC in state primary and doing well and very happy, but if my oldest wanted to go to a private sec, and would like it to consider but the fees are always what more worries me.
Thanks

There are lots of insurance plans that you can take off, I think that we had the option of paying for one alongside the fees. I think that the schools are also as supportive as they can be.

Take out not off!!!

I think the assumption that fees are paid from income is incorrect. Quite a few people use income drawdown from a mortgage facility. Some people use ISA savings that they have been paying into for many years. And quite a significant number of grandparents hel with school fees. And when people are 50 they can withdraw 25% of their pension pot as a cash lump sum.

I think most parents cross their fingers that the worst doesn't happen, and if it does that it is temporary, that the school will be sympathetic, and that there is enough equity in the house to be able to drawdown cash from the mortgage.

The worst happened to us and our dcs had to leave but are now in a better state school and doing really well.

thank you for the replies. I might just start a savings plan just in case,my oldest is in Y4, so another 2 years before we could might have to think about it, and if we don't need it, well, it can always we spent into something else.
happy new year to all!!!

Hi msdoctor,
Good to hear that everything was fine, at the end but I can guess that they were worrying times when it happened.
