DD1 is going tomorrow (in Victorian costume as per other thread!) She is in Year 3 - summer born and hyper-sensitive to scary films etc

She has got wind of the fact that they will be having a Victorian school lesson, complete with strict, shouty teacher. And she appears to be genuinely terrified - doesn't want to go - thinks it will be horrible and she will cry etc etc

She's just shown me a letter she wrote her teachers (but thankfully didn't send!) saying: "Dear Teachers, I do not !!!!!!!!!!!!! want to go on the trip. I AM NOT GOING!!! PS and that is an achal fact! full stop!"

Obviously she is going - it's paid for and there isn't any other option. But can anyone give me some idea whether it's all going to be OK, or whether she's going to need therapy all weekend and hold it against me forever for making her go!

She'll be fine! They do indeed have a proper Victorian lesson, with a strict Victorian teacher, but it's supposed to be fun! Other children and their teacher will no doubt be smiling and laughing along with it all.

If she's really concerned, why don't you have a little word with the teacher in the morning and just explain how she's feeling, so she can keep a special eye on her?

Thanks Maureen. I have spoken to her teacher who has promised to keep an eye on her. I thought we'd reassured her between us, but she kicked off again this evening and produced the "letter".

Will just have to hope the actor is sensitive enough to keep it fun!

Have you looked at the website with her? It seems she'll also have the opportunity to go in a Victorian kitchen. Maybe if she sees the scarey teacher, who doesn't look that scarey to me, she might feel better.

Well, she survived! And guess what, she actually enjoyed herself!

The scary teacher introduced herself nicely and explained what she was doing, and didn't hit anyone or shout too much!!! Made them sit up straight, write nicely, line up boys & girls separately etc and told DD1 her nails were too long. Which they are !

Thanks for your support. Now I just need to keep a close guard on the outfit, so DD2 can wear it in three years' time LOL.
