I'm studying accounting in the evening and payroll via distance learning. So at college two evenings and then study at home too. I am 33.

Didn't do A-level or anything when finished school as we 'don't do things like that in our family'

When this course finishing will do further accounting ones

I left school at 16 with 2 'o' levels and 3 CSEs. Did some secretarial stuff at night school in my late teens and worked my way up in every job I've had, but still felt that I needed to 'prove' that I am quit clever .

Got offered a place at Uni following an interview when I was 33. I then spent 6 years studying for a BA in English and Education whilst working full time and being chief cook and bottle washer at home(DCs were 8 and 5 when I started). Most of my fellow students were youngsters but there was a good proportion of us oldies.

I graduated last year with first class honours

I went to uni at 30 to study as an OT - over 3/4 of use were classed as mature students....I was one of the young ones! (Although that is quite common with OT - no-one has heard of it when they are 18!)

It's getting more common for older people to return to learning now, especially as there aren't really any jobs for life anymore.

I can heartily recommend it - after working full time for years I very much enjoyed the three hour lunch breaks and random days off. I know I appreciated it more than I would have at 18!
