Anyone else p**d off doing the school run?

Perhaps I am just having a bad day but DD started school back in September and I am now beginning to realise the monotony of the school run. Anyone else experiencing the same feeling?

It is stretching out ahead of me come rain and shine years of driving to and from school. She also has younger siblings so I have depressed myself further by adding their school years to the calculations!!!!!

How do you cheer up the school run?

I enjoy it although I drop ds at school and then pick him up from another school at the end of my work day. We have a really lovely drive to work - semi-rural past fields, woodlands etc. Our current fav activity is to say hello to the turkeys in one of the orchards, check what the latest farm equipment is in some of the other fields, look out for monsters in the woods and comment on other drivers (with mummy doing her damndest not to swear). We get to school. I drop and run and don't even get out of the car. Ds gets out, I open the window, he says 'I love you and I like you' and trots off into school.

We have about a 15 min drive in the morning and a bit less in the evening. I use the time in the car to chat to ds about what is going on and particularly if anything is troubling him (captive audience and he tends to be happy to talk).

'drive to work'? obviously I mean school!

It's doing my head in atm too. I have ds1 in the school nursery and dd in year 2. I have 3 runs to do daily at 8.45, 11.45 and 3.15 so 6 journeys including there and back in total. I feel ruled by the clock.

I don't drive either so walk everyday.

I actually enjoy my school run. Ds (Reception) has learnt to ride his bike without stabilisers and is so fast that we're there/home before we know it! His sister is on the back of my bike, come rain or shine!

at all of you who are able to do it. I suppose it's like anything we do all the time - but I'd love to be in a position to take my dc to school and pick them up occasionally.
When I did a job with a later start, I took them every day and was a happy mum.

Gosh and I thought it was only me that felt like that about the school run! Dd1 now at secondary school and gets herself there and back on the bus now but dd2 in year 5 so still going strong on the school run!

It's the monotony of the route/s in the end, coupled with the fact that now I'm doing a home study course it's a bit of a pain to down tools for the run both ends.

Mind you, not half as bad as when we lived abroad and had to get a tram to school and then two connecting trams to get to the after school dance club with the pushchair, PE kits, book bags and packed lunch bags and downpours!! Why oh why can't we have proper cycle paths to take them to school on? Exercise, speed and endorphins are what we all need!

I really like the school run actually.

ATM I am not working so it is a nice start and end to the day. When I was working (or am again) I was so pleased to pick the DC up at the end of my long day tbh (DH did the morning one).

We walk to school tho which may make a difference; it's a nice time to chat, talk about what's planned/what they did, wave to friends, practise spelling and songs etc. Plus even the most heated temper tantrum seems to evaporate as we stroll down the street

Yes gigglewitch those who don't get to do it because of work might enjoy it! Maybe that's why I like doing it all atm - it's a welcome break from being at work for 7.30am.

Othersideofthechannel · 30/11/2009 05:33

I have done it every day (bar a handful of occasions when DH has not been working) every day for over 3 years now and I like the actual going to school bit.

It's the getting out of the house in the morning bit I dislike.

Thanks for your replies.

I think all this rain is driving me mad.

I also think I was having a bad day on Friday which made me all them more grumpy!
