Which typing tutor

Sorry, not sure where to post this. and apologies if it's been done before.

Can anyone recommend a typing tutor for a 7 year old? My 7 year old ds is probably dyspraxic and has been doing hand gym at school for 1 year. He has also been on the school OT scheme for the last month. He is really finding writing a struggle and finds it really tiring. We've met with this teacher who is happy for him to type some of his work, but he is reluctant to, because it takes him just as long finding the right keys!

My ds says he hates school and it's a struggle getting him to go. It's such a shame as he is otherwise very bright and in the top group for almost every other subject.

I think if he could touch type, this would be the way forward. Please help. Thank you.

BBC dance mat typing (BBC website)

dance mat here too - ds1 is almost 9 and severely dyslexic, we're using it with him. Specialist dyslexia teachers recommended it to us
good to hear you're on to it and doing something that he will get a great deal of benefit from, well done you!

Oh yes, dance mat typing is fab. here you go

another useful resource to look into is "dragon naturally speaking" software where the entire thing is voice controlled, ds1 also uses that on a laptop.
Also look at your voice recognition stuff inbuilt into your computer, very easy to find in windows vista and iirc it's probably in earlier versions if you hunt in the 'accessibility' settings

That looks fab; my 7y does typing at school and wanted something for practising.

Thank you! I had looked at BBC Dance Mat and wasn't sure about it, but it sounds like your children have found it helpful, so will try it with my ds.

Mumsnetters are fab!

I like the Nessy Fingers program which was designed to be dyslexic friendly. My dyslexic/dyspraxic son has done very well with it and it helped his spelling and reading as well.

hadn't come across Nessy Fingers before, will definitely look it up. Thank you.

Nessy Fingers is great, I downloaded the demo for ds who loved it so much, bought the full version. He spent about 30 mins doing it, went from 7wpm to 10wpm, and was really chuffed!

Great typing tutor.

He also tried BBC Dance Mat and gave up after 5 mins as it wasn't to his liking.

Quick update. 1 week later and ds is still enjoying Nessy Fingers. He has now progressed to 18wpm! Yoohoo!
