I have had a lot of information from my ds nursery today. looking at the terms times, Ds will be 4 August 06 so will start school in the september06.

Does he have to start then or can I wait until he is 5?
What do you think that the pros and cons of holding him back would be?

As this wont be for over a year I am not sure how 'emotionally' ready he will be. Just wanting to gage your opinion and get my facts straight iyswim.

PS Round here the intake term is definately down to the individual school - some do Jan some don't. Again the school will tell you.

It might also be worth finding out whether your child needs to start full time. I am a Reception teacher, and the children in my class start with half days. Some children do half days until Christmas if the parents and teacher agree that it is appropriate. Also, just to re-assure you, Reception should be very play based now, with lots of outdoor education and practical, hands-on activities. At my school, we aim to make the transition from Nursery as smooth and comfortable as possible. You will hopefully find that the activities and styles of learning in Reception change gradually as the year goes on, in recognition of the children's growing independence and level of maturity. If you have any concerns, speak to the class teacher or headteacher.
