Sunday Times Parent Power - why hasn't there been one this year?

I always find this quite interesting but there hasn't been one this year? Any idea when it's due out? I've checked the Times website and there's no sign of it.

Me too, I'm pretty certain it's overdue - wasn't there some problem last year though with the SATs results all being delayed? Or maybe I just made that up?

thegrammerpolicesic · 08/11/2009 15:25

I'm sure it's normally in September or October.
I think the SATS haven't been announced yet on a school by school basis (maybe I'm wrong though) so maybe that's why this year too.

Looks like it was in today as it's on the website (haven't got a copy of the paper)

The link to today's Parent Power Website is here.

It has a tab link to the league tables which is searchable.

thegrammerpolicesic · 15/11/2009 20:35

It was interesting.
I'm wondering now where I can get level 5 data for state primaries - anyone know?

Not sure what level 5 data is but the BBC website has a good set of data on Primary and Secondary schools. The 2009 data is not yet available but I have found it a very useful and comprehensive data set.

The search boxes on the right half way down the age I linked can be used to look for results and national comparisons for a particular school.

janinlondon · 16/11/2009 11:12

TGP I would like to know that too, but I can't find level 5 anywhere for state schools.

Madsometimes · 16/11/2009 11:50

Level 5 data is available from department for children schools and families

janinlondon · 16/11/2009 13:47

Many thanks Madsometimes.

cranberrie · 16/11/2009 15:39

Does anyone know if you can mix up the state/independent results or are they only listed separately?

thegrammerpolicesic · 16/11/2009 15:50

Mad - I'm looking for 2009 level five data - can't see it on there yet.
The Sunday Times primary lists use different measures for state and private so you can't compare - the state are based on level four ks2 tests, whereas the private schools are basd on level five.

Thanks grammerpolice- you can compare secondary then? It would be useful if they just mixed them up.

thegrammerpolicesic · 17/11/2009 10:04

I noticed they use the same measures for A levels but not sure re GCSEs. So you can definitely compare for A levels.
The best way to mix them up is to do a search for your local area and include 'all secondaries' (or something like that) on the website.

Dd's school does not do SATS so was not included. It does exclude a large proprtion of indy's measuring them in this way. Still I guess thats why I chose the school.

Madsometimes · 17/11/2009 10:20

Grammarpolice - You can look up level 5 data for 2008 on the government website. The 2009 results have not been published yet, but schools should not change drastically in one year unless something very good or very bad has happened!

The parent power primary school tables are based on 2006-2008 data.

Some individual schools publish their 2009 results on their own websites, so you may be able to find L5 results for a particular school.

Madsometimes · 17/11/2009 10:27

I agree that the parent power tables should include L5 data for state schools. It is a pain to have to go to the government website and dig them out, when it is information that lots of pushy interested parents want .

thegrammerpolicesic · 17/11/2009 13:42

Ah I wanted the 2009 L5 ones you see...any ideas when they'll be out?
I'm pretty sure the PP state primary tables are based on 2009 data not 2008.
