Do you enjoy it? Is it more hassle than it's worth?
Our school's current committee are all leaving and need parents to volunteer for September so I need your feedback!!
TIA

Thank you all so much for your responses - loads of food for thought! Am glad to see how many of you really enjoy it - I was worried about negative experiences putting me off!
I think I will definitely volunteer for next term - maybe just as a helper initially and then see how it goes by the time dd starts at the nursery the following year.

Please please volunteer, it doesnt matter how much or how little time you can give.

I'm off to our PTA meeting tonight, feeling quite sure (unfortunately) that the usual group of 8 mums will appear, and this is from a school of 400(primary). Also the teachers play no part so I'm not sure why it is called PTA in our case. I know other schools in our area call themselves Friends of xxxx.

There is good and bad in the PTA, as there is anywhere. We are not cliquey, although with so few of us I can quite see why it might seem that way. We may moan and groan at doing all the work ourselves but we raised £7000+ last year and are on target for the same this year. Some events are for children, others for just grownups. We always have a bar licence for fairs and discos, thats where we make the money - its no fun sitting on those little chairs without a drink! LOL

The biggest problem we have, apart from not enough helpers, (although to be far, we always get a few who help on the day) is just the sheer volume of things to be done. This year the committee is absolutly worn out and we are all stepping down, additionally because most people have reached the maximum time allowed for a postion.

I do worry what will happen next term, although I suppose it will just the same as happened to us. Dont join = no money = no extras..... And yes I know all the arguments that the Government should fund it all etc, but today this is the real world, not the ideal one.
