hi,
have had DS [yr2] school report this week and his teacher assessments for maths, science, literacy. there are no sat results given however i know that they did take them.
is this the norm that the school dont inform parents of the sats results or should i get them?

i am very happy with our school and my sons progress but feel that they are should tell us how they did as it could differ from teachers assessments !

Oracy means "speaking and understanding" rather than speaking and listening

Don't blame us, we get landed with all sorts of rubbish!

I did guess that it wasn't the teachers that came up with it

*Reallytired""I can't understand why what work my son did last september is relevent.

Because where he was in September relates to how he is now - it's how his teacher measures the progress he has made over the year. To measure from a to b, you need to know a!

"However as a parent I want to know if my child is the sort of child who does well in exams."

At 6/7 years old????? Why?????!!!!! It has absolutely no relevance to your child's learning, until they are in Y6 - and hopefully that ridiculously cruel pressure willl soon be removed aswell.

"My son's school won't even give teacher assessment data."
They don't have to share this, it's not statutory - but as a measure of progress, I would want to know.

Had report and reading the comments SATS resulkts were really really good thanks for the info. Will give her an extra big hug now i 'understand' how well she did. It is so confusing and its never explined as the KS1 SATS are played down soo much at her shcool, and rightly so if you ask me.

primarymum or feenie,I have had ds yr 2 sats results.
I was only given level 2 for welsh language though, not the individual reading/writing/oracy a/b/c sublevels.
This is important to me as though I am thrilled he is picking up the welsh,am very interested to know the details/any areas to help with.
His [brilliant] teacher did say to me he was "up with the 3s for reading and average for the literacy"do you think that meant 2b for writing?
Should I ask again or am I being a bit thick/a pain?

I wonder if they don't do the subdivisions in Wales - we just had 3 or 2 rather than any a/b/c

Feenie · 12/07/2009 12:55

That;s correct - I don't teach in Wales, but my understanding is that they only give broad level judgements, with no subdivisions.

I really appreciated getting the SATs results as it gave me a more defined idea of where she is at with her subjects.

For instance she got 3's for everything (including Science) except Maths and Writing - both for which she got 2A which is still excellent.

I am really pleased as her teacher has previously told me that my dd struggles with Maths but as I look at the results I am reassured that even though she performs below her peers in Maths (63% of the school got a 3 in Maths) she is still okay with it. Also I know know she needs a bit more support with her writing which I wasn't really aware of before.
